  1. Call for help

If the death was unexpected or at home, call emergency services or the family doctor so that the death can be confirmed. If it was unnatural (for example an accident), the police must be notified.

  2. Get the medical certificate

The doctor (or the forensic pathologist, in an unnatural death) completes the medical certificate of cause of death, Form DHA-1663 (often called the BI-1663).

  3. Call us, any time

Call our 24/7 line on +27 67 764 2570. We arrange body pick-up and mortuary services.

  4. Register the death

The death is registered with the Department of Home Affairs, which then issues the death certificate. We assist families with death registration.

  5. Plan the funeral

Choose the service, casket, venue and cemetery arrangements. If the deceased had a policy with us, we will explain what the package covers.

  6. Submit the policy claim

Gather the documents listed below so the claim can be processed.
